Framing Books for the Owner-Builder

I was doing research on the net tonight regarding framing and come across this book mentioned on the Fine Homebuilding website. It looks helpful and what’s more – easy to understand.

There are so many things I don’t know. One thing came to mind was that a jack stud goes from the floor to the window or door opening instead of being cut by the cripple. I can follow diagrams alright – if they are large enough to show detail. This one I could have easily missed.

The book is Precision Framing. It emphasizes getting things right in the beginning. I’ve also been concerned with that so here is a link if you are interested:

Another book I found very helpful was House Framing by John Wagner. I bought it a few years ago and gave it to one of my sons who also liked it. I’ll buy another one!

I originally found House Framing through the Country Plans website, my favorite forum. Here you’ll find their recommendations especially for owner-builders.
